COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCCEPS, Tissue, (Cushing)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a tissue forceps of the Cushing design for use during vascular, general, genitourological and gynecological surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics.
General. Forceps shall be tweezers type with 1x2 teeth at the distal end and serrations on the shaft of the handle for sure grip of the surgeon.
Material. Material of the forceps shall be Class 4 corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Style, design and dimensions. Forceps shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 24470 for style, design and dimensions.
Hardness. Forceps shall have a Rockwell hardness C scale (HRC) of 40 to 47 when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E 18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM Designation E140.
Finish. Forceps shall be mirror, satin or matte finish. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform nondirectional surface texture equivalent to that produce by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Passivation. Forceps shall be properly passivated.
Corrosion resistance. Forceps shall show no evidence of corrosion or plating when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation F1089.
Performance. In the closed position teeth shall fully engage and not protrude beyond jaws.
