COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CLIP, HEMOSTATIC, SILVER (McKenzie)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-C-36291 (DM) which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers silver hemostatic clips suitable for use in hemostasis of blood vessels of the brain.
Salient characteristics:
General. The hemostatic clip shall be capable of being dispensed from a McKenzie clip-holding rack specifically designed for this purpose, and also be capable of being picked up and applied by a McKenzie clip-applying forceps specifically designed for this purpose (See Notes 2 and 3).
Material. Material of the hemostatic clip shall be sterling silver containing 92 5% silver, 7.5% copper.
Style, design and dimensions. The hemostatic clip shall be fabricated of sterling silver wire 0.029 +/- .002 inches wide by 0.018 +/1 .002 inches thick. The wire shall be bent into an angle of 64 to 65 degrees, with serrations on the inner surface. Each leg shall measure 5 +/- 1/2 millimeter (mm) in length.
Finish. The outer surface of the hemostatic clip shall be smooth and free from burrs and the inner surface shall have uniform serrations.
Performance. When closed with the forceps, the clips shall not split or fracture.
Workmanship. The hemostatic clip shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Visual and dimensional examination. Clips shall be examined to verify that design, construction and workmanship are in accordance with applicable requirements.
Materials. The supplier shall be responsible for assuring that materials are in accordance with requirements specified.
