FORCEPS, NASAL (Takahashi)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a nasal forceps of the Takahashi design suitable for removal of polyps and in ethmoid and sphenoid procedures.
Salient characteristics.
Style, design and dimensions. The working length of the forceps and its jaws shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center Drawing No. 23411.
Material. Material of the forceps shall be Class 4 martensitic corrosion-resisting steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Hardness. The jaws of the forceps shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) of 50 to 55. The remaining parts of the forceps shall have a Rockwell Hardness of 40 to 45 when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. As an alternate the entire instrument may be Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) 45 to 50. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM Designation E140.
Passivation. The forceps shall be properly passivated.
Finish. The forceps shall have a satin or matte finish. Should the forceps possess a matte finish, it shall exhibit a uniform, nondirectional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Corrosion resistance. The forceps shall comply with the Copper Sulfate and Boil Test corrosion resistance requirements of ASTM Designation F1089.
