COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, CORNEAL (4-1/8 Inch, Colibri)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a corneal forceps of the Colibri type used in microsurgical procedures.
Salient characteristics.
General. The forceps shall have 1 X 2, 0.12 mm teeth which are set at 45 degrees and slightly overlapping. The forceps shall have a tying platform and a wide serrated handle.
Material. The forceps shall be a Class 4 corrosion-resistant stainless steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Hardness. The forceps shall have a Rockwell hardness C scale (HRC) of 40 to 47 when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM Designation E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The forceps shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 23428.
Finish. The finish of the forceps shall be mirror, satin, or matte. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform nondirectional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Corrosion resistance. The forceps shall show no signs of corrosion or plating of copper when copper sulfate and boil tested in accordance with ASTM Designation F1089.
Identification marking. The forceps shall bear the contractor’s name or registered trademark and the word “stainless”. Forceps of foreign manufacture shall bear the name of the country of manufacture.
