COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ELEVATOR, EAR, BAYONET TYPE, CURVED BLADE (House)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a curved bayonet type elevator of the House design suitable for use in middle ear surgery.
Salient characteristics:
General. The elevator shall be approximately 7 inches long overall length with a flat handle. An offset cylindrical shaft shall attach to the handle and provide the working part of the elevator. The distal end of the shaft shall be flattened and slightly curved upward with a square sharpened end.
Material. The material of the elevator shall be Class 4 martensitic corrosion-resisting steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Style, design and dimensions. The elevator shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 23421 for style, design and dimensions.
Hardness. The elevator shall have a Rockwell Hardness C Scale (HRC) of 40 to 47 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92, whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Finish. The elevator shall have a satin, or matte finish except for the flat section which shall have a smooth polished finish. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform nondirectional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
