COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, INTESTINAL, (Glassman)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-F-42049 which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers a straight and angular non-crushing intestinal forceps of the Glassman design.
Salient characteristics:
General. Both jaws of the forceps shall have two parallel rows of teeth. The teeth shall be dulled without burrs and sharp edges. The teeth of both jaws shall oppose each other and interdigitate in the closed position. The forceps shall be in accordance with applicable requirements of ASTM F1026 and as specified herein. The terms used to describe the components and portions of the instruments described in this specification shall be in accordance with ASTM F921.
Material. Materials of the forceps shall be Class 4 corrosion-resistant steel, in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The forceps shall have a Rockwell Hardness C Scale (HRC) of 40 to 48 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92, whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The forceps shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 24508 for style, design and dimensions.
Finish. The forceps shall have a mirror, satin, or matte finish. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform non-directional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Passivation. The forceps shall be properly passivated.
