Stylet. The wire shall be securely attached to the knob. The wire tip bevel shall blend with the needle tip bevel and fit flush when inserted into the needle. The knob shall be Luer slip in accordance with ANSI/HIMA MD70.1 and have a slot or indexing device to assure alignment with the needle bevel.
Security of assembly. The needle cannula shall not pull out of the needle hub when subjected to a 5 pound force for one minute.
Corrosion resistance. The plated parts shall show no signs of corrosion when boil tested in accordance with ASTM Designation F1089 and salt spray tested in accordance with ASTM Designation B117. The austenitic stainless steel parts shall have no signs of corrosion when boil tested in accordance with ASTM Designation F1089.
Identification marking and labeling. The needle hub shall be marked with the gage and the manufacturer’s trademark. The stylet knob and needle shall have matching serial numbers.
Workmanship. Workmanship shall be first class throughout. Needles shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability. The cannula shall show no smooth finished outer surface free from pits and tool marks, burrs, scale or corrosion, and inner surface free from scale, deep pits, deep furrows, or die marks. The lumen of the cannula and the hub cavity shall be free from burrs, chips, dirt, slivers or other foreign matter. Needles shall be sharp, not blunt or bent, when examined under 7 power magnification.
Unit. Each (EA). One needle, as specified, constitutes one unit.
