COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, INTESTINAL, STRAIGHT, BABCOCK
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-F-36512 which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers straight intestinal forceps suitable for grasping stomach or intestinal tract tissue.
Salient characteristics:
General. The forceps shall be of the Babcock design and of the following sizes and lengths:

Material. The forceps shall be fabricated from class 4, type 420 martensitic corrosionresistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The forceps shall have a Rockwell Hardness C Scale (HRC) of C40 to C48 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92, whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The forceps shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 20381 for style, design and dimensions.
Performance. The forceps shall be capable of meeting the requirements of ASTM F1026.
Finish. The forceps shall have a mirror, satin, or matte finish.
Passivation. The forceps shall be properly passivated.
