BAG, TUBE FEEDING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description describes a disposable enteral tube feeding bag for use with patients who require enteral nutrition support.
Salient characteristics. The feeding bag shall be a nonsterile, disposable, individually packaged, clear medical grade plastic bag with a pre-attached administration set suitable for enteral nutrition gravity delivery. The bag is not for use with electronic enteral delivery systems.
The bag shall have a capacity of 1000 ml with clear graduations in 100 ml increments to the 1000 ml level. Accuracy of the graduations and capacity shall be to within +or- 5% when tested by use of a laboratory graduate capable of accurate measurement of fluids in 1 ml increments. The bag shall have a leakproof opening at or near the top for ease in adding fluids. The top of the bag shall also be provided with a device with which to securely attach a filled bag to an IV pole. The bag shall be designed to drain completely, leaving no residual fluids.
The bag and administration set shall not leak when filled to capacity with water.
The administration set shall be not less than 65 inches (165.10 cm) long as measured from the distal connector to where it connects to the bag. The set shall consist of clear plastic tubing with 3/16 inch (0.475 cm) (+ or - 1/32 inch (0.079 cm)) ID, an integral clear plastic drip chamber for flow rate observation, a roller clamp capable of regulating and complete shut-off of flow (the flow rate drift shall not be more than 4 drops per minute off the set rate) and terminate with a permanently attached male step-wise tapered adapter that is capable of leakproof connection to funnel end feeding tubes. The adapter/connector shall be covered with a cap to protect cleanliness of the set until the time of use.
