Tests. Tests shall be conducted to determine compliance with this commercial item description requirements. Where feasible, the same sample shall be used for the determination of two or more test characteristics.
Leak test. Fill the bag to graduated capacity of 1000 ml with the roller clamp in the shut-off position. Invert the bag and hang, using the hanging device, so the bag and administration set is fully extended. Open the clamp to allow water to enter the tubing and drip chamber. Close the clamp when the tubing is filled. Add water to the bag as necessary to bring it back to full capacity of 1000 ml. The bag shall remain inverted for 4 hours and then observed for leaking. No leak at any point is allowed.
Roller clamp test. Perform after the leak test. With the bag still hanging and inverted, slowly open the roller clamp to permit drops of fluid to enter the drip chamber. Without further movement of the clamp, count the number of drops entering the drip changer for 15 seconds. Adjust the clamp to get 15 drops per 15 seconds. Repeat the 15 second count for at least 2 cycles without movement of the clamp. There should be little change in the number of drops entering the drip chamber in these 15 second cycles. Repeat the above by adjusting the clamp to get 20 drops in 15 seconds and repeat as above noting the number of drops in the 15 second intervals. The flowrate drift of the clamp shall not be more than 4 drops per minute off the set rate.
Sampling for examination. Sampling for examination shall be conducted in accordance with MIL-STD-105, with an AQL of 1.0 (percent defective) and inspection level of II. Sampling for tests shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-105, with an AQL of 1.0 (percent defective) and an inspection level of S-1. The unit or product for test purposes shall be one feeding bag.
Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within the tolerances specified using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of Federal Standard 376, and all other requirements of this document are met.
