RESPIRATOR, PARTICULATE HEALTHCARE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description describes a disposable particulate respirator suitable for use by medical personnel in areas where exposure to patients with infectious tuberculosis is anticipated.
Salient characteristics. Respirator, Particulate Healthcare shall be a disposable, cup shaped, molded design, with two elastic bands secured with staples. The area of the body of the respirator which fits over the bridge of the nose shall have an aluminum malleable nose-piece centrally located on the respirator 1/4 in. (6mm) from the perimeter seal and firmly cemented to the outside surface. A foam strip that fits over the bridge of the nose shall be attached on the inside of the respirator. The nose-piece shall be easily formed to the contour of the wearer’s nose to minimize the loss of expired air between the respirator and the face in this area. The respirator shall be NIOSH/MSHA certified as a particulate respirator for use against dust and mists with a PEL (permissible exposure limit) not less than 0.05 milligrams per cubic meter. The filtering efficiency of the respirator shall not be less than 99% when tested by the method of Greene and Vesly (J.Bacteriol., vol. 83, No. 3, p. 663, March 1982), and no less than 80% efficiency (20% penetration) when tested by DOP (dioctyl phthalate) submicron filtration efficiency test, ASTM D2986-71. Delta P shall not be more than 2.2 ± 0.2 (MMH20). The respirator shall be fluid resistant as defined by meeting the following requirement when tested in accordance with hydrostatic pressure test method ASTM D583-63 Method II (AATCC 127-1985):

Elastic Bands:
Top: Minimum 12-1/2 inches (32 cm) long
Bottom: Minimum 10-1/4 inches (26 cm) long
