ADAPTER, CATHETER TO LUER SYRINGE, Small Lumen
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a metal adapter suitable for connecting small-lumen catheters to Luer-Lock syringes.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a metal adapter with a female Luer Lock on one end and a ribbed, tapered fitting on the other end to form the secure connection of small-lumen catheters to Luer-Lock syringes.
Material. The adapters shall be fabricated from chromium over nickel plated copper alloy. The plating and corrosion tests shall be as specified in Federal Specification GG-I-526.
Style and design. The adapter shall allow the attachment of various small-lumen catheters. The catheter end shall have a tapered, ribbed construction.
The other end shall be a female Luer-Lock connector for the attachment of Luer Lock syringes. The female Luer-Lock shall conform to the American National Standards Institute/Health Industry Manufacturers Association (ANSI/HIMA) MD 70.1. The adapter shall be in accordance with Figure 1.
Performance. The adapters shall provide a leak-tight connection between the catheter and Luer-Lock syringe. The material, Luer-Lock performance, and adapter leak-tightness tests are specified herein.
Finish. The adapters shall be smooth, with a mirror or matte finish, except for the knurled portion.
Workmanship. The adapter shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
PRODUCT QUALITY LEVEL
Visual and dimensional examination. Shall be examined to verify that design, construction and workmanship are in accordance with applicable requirements.
Materials. The supplier shall be responsible for performing tests to assure that materials are in accordance with requirements specified.
