COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RESERVOIR, SUCTION, JACKSON-PRATT, SILICONE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a sterile disposable suction reservoir for use with Jackson-Pratt style surgical drains.
Salient characteristics:
Material. The reservoir shall be manufactured from a transparent silicone rubber compound. The reservoir material shall be sufficiently transparent to see graduations when viewed from the opposite side of the finished reservoir.
Physical properties. The silicone compound used in the manufacture of the bulb proper shall have the properties shown in Table I. Silicone compound shall be tested for the property using the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) ASTM shown in Table I.

Style and design. The reservoir shall be an oval-shaped aspirator bulb with a permanently attached semi-rigid silicone rubber head. The reservoir head shall have a drainage port, a suction port, and an attached bulb strap. The suction port shall have a plug attached to it which makes a mechanically secure and leak-proof connection with the drainage.
