COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION A-A-51464
The suction port shall protrude from the reservoir head 0.500 ± 0.125 inches. The suction port shall have three steps ranging outside diameter from 0.156 ± 0.007 inches at the top of a step to 0.187 ± 0.007 inches at the base of a step. Each step shall be 0.140 ± 0.007 inches in length, with the top of the first step forming the distal tip of the suction port. The drainage port plug shall be attached to the suction port shall have an inside diameter of 0.110 ± 0.007 inches. The suction port shall connect to an integral Bunsen valve on the interior of the reservoir which allows flow of fluids into the reservoir but prevents flow from the reservoir into the suction port. The Bunsen valve shall also prevent the loss of negative pressure in the suction tubing when the reservoir drainage port is opened.
The reservoir drainage port shall protrude from the reservoir head 0.250 ± 0.020 inches, shall have an inside diameter of 0.156 ± 0.010 inches, and shall have an outside diameter of 0.219 ± 0.01 inches.
The reservoir shall have an overall length of 4.75 ± 0.25 inches when measured from the suction reservoir tip to the bottom of the reservoir. The reservoir shall have an outside diameter of 2.20 ± 0.2 inches at the point of maximum diameter. The reservoir shall have a minimum internal volume of 125 milliliters (ml).
Graduations. The reservoir shall be graduated in 25 ml increments from 25 to 100 ml. Each graduation line shall extend around the circumference of the bulb and shall be numbered. The reservoir shall bear the letters “cc” or “ml” beside or neat the 100 ml graduation. Graduations shall be accurate to within ± 10 percent of the labeled volume. Accuracy shall be tested with water and a graduated cylinder.
Performance. Finished reservoirs shall be tested in accordance with the vacuum and flow rate test.
Vacuum test. Attach a manometer or pressure gage to the suction port. Manually or mechanically evacuate the air from the reservoir and install the reservoir drain plug. Release the reservoir. The reservoir shall create a minimum vacuum of 85 mm of mercury, and shall hold the vacuum for a minimum of 2 minutes.
