Two pairs of diametrically opposed, oval-shaped “eyes” shall be located as shown on the drawing. As an alternate, the tube may have five oval eyes. One eye shall sever the radiopaque line at a point beginning 2 inches (5.08 cm) from the distal end. Two pairs of eyes shall be present distal to the eye on the radiopaque line. Each eye of a pair shall oppose the other and shall be 900 away from the radiopaque line. Oval eyes shall have well rounded, smoothly beveled edges.
The cross-sectional area of each eye shall be no less than 85 percent of each tube’s cross-sectional area, nor greater than 115 percent of each tube’s cross-sectional area. By definition, the cross-sectional area of each tube shall be based on the tube’s inside diameter.
Each eye shall be chamfered and rounded.
The distal edge of each tube shall be rounded.
The tube shall be supplied clean and shall be capable of sterilization by commercially prepared cold sterilization solutions and by steam autoclaving. The tube shall be unaffected by oil base lubricants.
