SPECULUM, EAR (Boucheron)

This commercial item description covers ear speculum of the Boucheron design.

Sizes. Speculum shall be supplied in the following sizes as specified (see Figure 1 for tolerances):

Material. Speculum shall be manufactured from brass. Brass speculum shall be plated with chromium on the exterior surface. As an alternate, the speculum shall be manufactured from austenitic corrosion-resistant steel of composition in accordance with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard F899.
Style and Design. The speculum shall be of the style and dimensions shown in Figure I. The ends of the speculum shall be well rounded and free from any sharp edges. The tapered portion of the speculum shall be smooth on both the inside and outside surfaces, with no raised seams visible.
Finish. Steel speculum shall have a matte or satin finish. The interior surfaces of brass speculums shall be smooth. The speculum shall be free from burrs, pits, scale, rough areas, and tool marks.
Plating. Plating (brass speculum) shall be uniform and free from blistering, chips, and cracks.
