FORCEPS, NASAL SEPTUM CUTTING, Cupped Blades
(Jansen-Middleton)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a Jansen Middleton design, cupped blades, nasal septum cutting forceps suitable to grasp and cut the septum in nasal operative procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The forceps shall be nasal septum cutting forceps of the Jansen-Middleton design with an overall length of 7-1/2 inches. The forceps shall have cup-shaped, cross-action and double spring-separated handles.
Materials. The forceps shall be fabricated from Class 4 martensitic corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) designation F899.
Hardness. The jaws of the forceps shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) 50 to 55. The remainder of the forceps shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) 40 to 47. The hardness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 or ASTM Designations E92 and E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The style, design and dimensions of the forceps shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 24522. The handle of the forceps shall be serrated. As an alternate, the handle may have a fingerguard. The handle spring shall open the forceps smoothly from the closed position. All hinged joints shall operate without binding or excessive looseness.
Passivation. The forceps shall be properly passivated.
