COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SNARE, NASAL (Krause)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Federal Specification GG-W-331, which is canceled.
This commercial item description covers a Krause style nasal and snare wires suitable for use in nasal surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The snare shall consist of a nasal cannula and sleeve, a stylet and double-ring slide attachment and snare body with a ring free to swivel on the proximal end and the nasal cannula sleeve permanently attached to the distal end. Overall length is 9-3/4 inches nominal. The stylet shall have 2 wire holes on its distal end and serrated on its proximal end. The side attachment shall have a thumb screw to anchor the stylet. The distal end of the snare body shall have a set screw to anchor the cannula in the cannula sleeve. The snare wires shall be 0.014 inch (28 BWG) and 4-3/8 inches long with 3/8 inch of both ends bent up.
Material. The snare shall be Class 3 austenitic stainless steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899, except for the stylet, screws and rings which shall be Class 4 martensitic stainless steel. The snare wires shall be tined carbon steel music wire or cold drawn austenitic stainless steel wire.
Style, design and dimensions. The snare shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 23337 for style, design and dimensions.
Hardness. The snare components fabricated from Class 3 steel shall have a Rockwell Hardness B Scale (HRB) of 75 to 100 when tested in accordance with ASTM Designations E 18 or E 92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM Designation E 140. The snare components fabricated from Class 4 steel shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) of 40 to 47.
