Finish. The snare shall be mirror, satin or matte finish. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform nondirectional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Passivation. The snare components fabricated from Class 4 steel shall be properly passivated.
Corrosion resistance. The snare components fabricated from Class 4 steel shall show no evidence of corrosion or plating of copper when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation F1089, Corrosion Testing of Surgical Instruments. Snare components fabricated from Class 3 steel shall show no evidence of corrosion when boil tested in accordance with ASTM Designation F 1089.
Performance. When fully forward, the stylet shall protrude 5/16 inch nominal beyond the end of the cannul. The stylet shall move freely up and down the cannula. With a snare wire attached to the stylet, the stylet shall move freely down the cannula.
Identification marking and labeling. The snare shall be legibly marked with the contractor’s name or trademark and the word “stainless”. Foreign manufactured forceps shall bear the name of the country of origin.
Workmanship. The snare and wires shall be processed in such a manner as to be uniform and free from cracks, pits, burrs, sharp edges, scale, rough areas, corrosion, grind or tool marks, and dirt or polishing materials.
Visual and dimensional examination. Snares and wires shall be examined to verify that design, construction and workmanship are in accordance with applicable requirements.
Materials. The supplier shall be responsible for performing tests to assure that materials are in accordance with requirements.
Unit. Each (EA). One snare and 12 size 5 snare wires, as specified, constitutes one unit.
