Material.
Metal parts. Metal parts shall be fabricated from chromium plated over nickel plated brass. As an alternate, the inside surfaces of the barrel and the plunger proper shall be nickel plated only. As a further alternate, metal parts may be fabricated from Class 3 austenitic stainless steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Sealing gaskets and “O” Rings. Gaskets that are placed on the syringe tip, the proximal end of the guard assembly, and the “O” ring contained on the plunger assembly to Type II design shall be fabricated from natural or synthetic rubber.
Style, design and dimensions. The syringe shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 24244.
Hardness. Metal parts fabricated from Class 3 steel scale (HRB) of 70 to 90 when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E 18 or E 92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM Designation E 140.
Finish. Metal parts fabricated from Class 3 steel shall be mirror satin, or matte.
Corrosion resistance. The plated brass components shall show no signs of corrosion when salt spray tested for 24 hours in accordance with ASTM Designation B117. Class 3 Stainless steel components shall show no signs of corrosion when boil tested in accordance with ASTM Designation F1089.
Performance.
Fluid tightness.
Barrel and plunger. The barrel and plunger shall be tested for fluid tightness as specified. When pressure is applied as specified there shall not be leakage exceeding 3 cubic centimeters of water.
Tips and guard. The tips shall be tested for fluid tightness as specified. When pressure is applied as specified, there shall not be water leakage at the threaded end of the tips exceeding one falling drop.
