The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a disposable sterile external fixation system for the immediate stabilization and transportation of patients with open, compound bone fractures.

Rod. Rod shall be fabricated of a radiolucent composite material. The composite shall be graphite/epoxy or carbon fiber/epoxy. The rod shall have a round cross-section and a length of 350 (+/-) mm. When loaded in 3-point bending, the rod shall have a flexural rigidity of 26 Nm2 minimum. The diameter of the rod shall be either 8 (+/- .5) mm or 11 (+/- .5) mm and shall be compatible with the adjustable clamps of the system. The surface texture of the rod shall enable the clamps to securely lock to it. The rod shall have protective end caps and shall be capable of being cut by a gigli saw blade evenly without frayed sharp edges.
