COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PIN, BONE, STEINMANN, BAYONET AND TROCAR POINT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-P-36627A which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers bone pins of the Steinmann design, bayonet and trocar point, for traction reduction of fractures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The bone pins shall be of the following types, sizes, and styles, as specified:

Material. The bone pins shall be fabricated from cold drawn wire, conforming to the composition specified in ASTM F138, Grade 2 (0.03 maximum carbon content). Tensile strength of wire shall be 150,00 to 200,00 pounds per square inch (psi) when tested in accordance with ASTM E8. Grain size of the raw material shall be 5 or finer in accordance with ASTM F138. Microcleanliness of the raw material shall be in accordance with ASTMF138.
